About HHoops Travel Programs

Travel basketball is a grand commitment that each family should think about and be fully aware of before embarking on this journey. HHoops offers travel teams for girls and boys from 3rd grade through 8th grade.  All teams will be playing in the ICBA (Inter-County Basketball League). Travel teams will be following the ICBA rules & regulations.

Commitment
It is expected that all players and families will be committed to the goals of improving as a team, supporting continued growth, and producing a winning basketball product during their participation in travel basketball. It should be understood that while the players, coaches, and fans may be playing “away” from Hatboro and Horsham, they are still representing our community and subject to both the ICBA rules and regulations as well as the HHoops Code of Conduct.

When making the team, the coaches expect that basketball is 2nd only to academics during the season. Other sports should not be interfering with travel basketball.

Please consider the following before trying out for a travel team:
– Travel fees are part of joining the team, inclusive of uniforms, referee fees, and league dues.
– Teams will typically practice one-to-two times per week from early October through the end of the season.
– All travel teams have access to one tournament that is included in the fees. Tournaments can be anywhere from October to December. If more tournaments are agreed upon by the coaches and parents, additional fees may be required.
– Teams will play a 12-14 game schedule, with up to two games per week from mid-December through February.
– ICBA playoffs will be in late February or early March.

Player Tryouts
– Players must try out for the respective teams each year.
– Players are not guaranteed automatic succession to the next grade level for the next season.
– Tryouts will be conducted in the late summer/early fall.
– Players will be selected by the travel coaches at the conclusion of the tryout sessions.
– Objective input on player selection can be provided by members of the travel committee and evaluators.

Coaches
– Coaches will be selected by the HHoops travel committee.
– Prospective coaches must provide a coaching resume for review by the travel committee.
– There will not be automatic succession year-to-year for the current coach.
– Each travel coach will be evaluated at the end of the year.

Playing Time
The travel program is competitive play. The head coach is in control of setting practice times and playing time. Skills, attitude, and commitment along with other factors are all acceptable variables why your child may not be getting as much playing time as others.

Travel basketball players are also strongly encouraged to play intramural basketball during the winter season. This gives them an opportunity for additional practices and games, as well as a chance build their leadership and teamwork skills that are critical for continued success on and off the court.
